There’s something for everyone, from beginners to nature lovers. Events also take place across The Wildlife Trusts and RSPB reserves. Most are free and often include expert led guided walks.

Llyn Brenig Wildlife Bonanza

Llyn Brenig event

Join local conservation groups at Llyn Brenig Visitor Centre for a family-friendly day celebrating wildlife and nature.

Activities include:

  • Build your own bird boxes
  • Create bee hotels
  • Make squirrel feeders
  • Wildlife conservation talks
  • Scaly Safari – meet and learn about reptiles

Gone Wild at Pembrey Country Park

Gone Wild takes place during Wales Nature Week. Join us for a free fun day out celebrating nature at is best in the beautiful surroundings of Pembrey Country Park . The event will include activities which will appeal to families, those that are new to nature, and to the more seasoned nature lover.

In addition to walkabout children’s entertainers promoting being kind to nature there will be mini orienteering; a nature scavenger hunt; park ranger led activities like den building and camp fire building. Representatives from The Country Park’s new Nature Centre will also be on hand to showcase what it has to offer. Plus a host of environmentally friendly stalls and food vendors.

Biodiversity beneath your feet: insects of Penlan

Join entomologist Liam Olds for a guided insect walk at Penlan Racecourse. Once part of a prestigious 19th-century racecourse, the site is now a haven for wildlife. Explore the variety of insects that thrive here, from bees and butterflies to beetles and other invertebrates, while taking in views over the Lower Swansea Valley and Swansea Bay.

A perfect opportunity for nature enthusiasts of all ages to discover the hidden insect life of this urban green space.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Wildflower Walk at Gilfach

Summer is the perfect time to see the wide range of wonderful plants that thrive at Gilfach. Butterflies love the wildflowers and grasses with the small pearl-bordered fritillary, common blue and green hairstreak to name but a few found here.

Wales Nature Week ID Session Parc Taf Bargoed

We will meet in the carpark, in front of the visitor centre.

This walk may be over unseen forest trails and woodland banks so will not be suitable for pram and/or wheelchairs or those with mobility issues.

All children must be accompanied by adults and well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

Story telling in Pontypool Park

We are delighted to be joined in Pontypool Park by Daniel Morden, who will be telling the legendary Welsh story of Gwion Bach and his epic escape from the goddess Cerridwen. An exciting encounter of Gwion Bach transforming into different animals in order to escape, only for Cerridwen to change and pursue him as that animal’s predator! Come and listen to this magical and thrilling tale from long ago!

There will also be crafts following the story for children to colour in and create masks of some of the animals that feature in the story.

What to expect at events

There will be something for everyone – events for individuals, families and those who are new to nature, to the more seasoned nature lover.

Wales Nature Week events are held each year at Wildlife Trust and RSPB reserves, local and national nature reserves, parks and community green spaces, schools and worship sites, beaches and coastal areas.

A typical event involves a guided walk at a nature site. An expert guide will point out plants and animals and the importance of the habitat and answer any questions you have. The vast majority of events are free*
