Awareness-raising and education relating to biodiversity issues is an important role of all involved in the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity. Biodiversity is a global issue but local messages are far more likely to resonate with people. Local plants and animals provide a familiar and relevant connection and provide a sense of place.

Have you ever stopped and wondered what type of tree that is? Expand your knowledge of tree ID in the summer, whether that's for general interest, woodland management or identifying wood for green woodworking and crafts.

Come and join Coppicewood College in the beautiful Pengelli Wood National Nature Reserve to - Identify common trees in Wales and UK.

A day of celebration and discovery will bring you close to dragonflies, as we celebrate 1 year since the launch of Newport Wetlands as a Dragonfly Hotspot.

The day will be jam packed with exciting activities:

  • Guided dragonfly walks - ID course and guided walk with Steve Preddy, County Recorder. Please book a ticket to join his session. Start time 10am.
  • Pond dipping - Open from 10:30am-2:30pm, Pay at the centre for your equipment, £4.50 each.
  • Dragonfly crafting and spotting guides
  • Knowledgeable guides on hand with any questions
