NMGW was established by Royal Charter in 1907 as the National Museum of Wales. An independent registered charity, NMGW receives its core funding through grant-in-aid from the Welsh Assembly Government as an Assembly Sponsored Public Body. Its core activities involve developing, caring for, studying and sustaining access to its collections for the benefit of society in perpetuity. The Charter (1907, revised 1991) states that this is to be achieved: primarily by the complete illustration of the geology, mineralogy, zoology, botany, ethnography, archaeology, art, history and special industries of Wales by collection, conservation, elucidation, presentation and publication of objects and things.

North Wales and North Western Sea Fisheries Committee (NWNWSFC)

Sea Fisheries Committees (SFCs) are local fisheries management bodies that encourage, maintain and regulate the activity of sea fisheries up to 6 nautical miles offshore. SFCs were established in the 1890s and are currently regulated under the Sea Fisheries Regulation Act of 1966. SFCs enforce National and EU legislation, and make and enforce local byelaws. Many Committees are also grantees of Several and Regulating Orders aimed at developing and managing the cultivation of shellfish. The NWNWSFC operates two such Orders in the Menai Strait and the Conwy Estuary. These Orders form the basis of the largest mussel cultivation operation in the UK.
