Biodiversity activities cover not only science, maths, art and geography parts of the curriculum, but also the schools Personal and Social Education (PSE) policy in areas such as teamwork, cooperation, resolving conflict, awareness of self and others and environmental awareness.  The Local Biodiversity Action Plan also provides a local perspective that covers community and social responsibility.

Get out there!

WAG have recommended that 25% of the national curriculum is actually taught outdoors. In Wales many rural schools are in the enviable position of being surrounded by wildlife. However the wonder of nature is that it is everywhere and there is rarely an area where you can’t find anything growing. Green spaces in schools are a fantastic way to enable children to interact with nature and gain an understanding of the importance of considering their environment.

The Learning Outside the Classroom partnership has created a resource with the help of many experts and practitioners in learning outside the classroom. The resource is designed to help professionals working with young people aged 0–19 to provide high-quality experiences.

RSPCA Education Resources

The RSPCA Education website has over 80 lesson plans for teachers to use in the classroom. Linked to the Wales curriculum, they are aimed to support teaching largely in the areas of Science and PSE and lessons include downloadable PDF copies of any accompanying worksheets or teacher's notes in both English and Welsh. In addition, FREE packs of photos, which support the lessons, can be ordered.
