Funding

During 2008 and 2009, at the request of the Welsh Assembly Government, CCW consulted stakeholders about establishing a new all-Wales biodiversity support scheme. The main findings from this consultation are now available as a report

HLF funding available for biodiversity projects

With 2010 International Year of Biodiversity already in full flow, the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) is encouraging more organisations to apply for funding for projects that help conserve the UK’s precious natural heritage.

From conserving priority species or habitats, to training volunteers in biological identification and helping a wider range of people to access and understand the natural world, HLF funds a broad range of biodiversity projects.

It has already invested more than £860million to help safeguard the UK’s valued countryside, wildlife and parks, and protect some of our most threatened wildlife. But there is still much to do, particularly in 2010, and the Fund is keen for more potential applicants to get in touch.

You can find out about existing HLF projects on the HLF website. The Fund has also just published Thinking about biodiversity, a guidance document for potential applicants that sets out what HLF can fund, and lists sources of advice to help with planning a project.

For more information about HLF and how to apply, call 020 7591 6042, email enquire@hlf.org.uk, or visit www.hlf.org.uk

General Funding

Finding and applying for adequate funding is always a challenge. Local Biodiversity  Partnerships will generally have a fairly comprehensive database of funding organisations and a wealth of experience in applying for funds. This reference section provides a list of possible funding sources and relevant links to useful web-based resources that advise on areas such as finding match-funding and filling out application forms.

Note: This list is not exhaustive and remains a flexible document. While we have tried to categorise the funding opportunities for ease of use we are aware that these may change. Therefore we ask you to do two things. 1) Look at the entire document because while a source may be an opportunity specific it may also suit a local project. 2) If you know of a funding opportunity please contact Delcie Simkin Tel 01970 653885) who will update the document. Also, check out the CCW Funding newsletters which are issued monthly.
