Rhinos (and swifts) in Caerwedros!

Rhinos (and swifts) in Caerwedros!

Each summer, swifts return to Caerwedros and across Wales, filling the skies with their iconic screams and breathtaking speed. But these much-loved birds are in trouble. Over recent decades, swift numbers have fallen sharply, mainly due to the loss of nesting spaces in buildings.

The good news? Communities are stepping up. In Ceredigion, local groups—including our Caerwedros Swift Group—are taking action to protect and restore nesting habitats.

This year also marks the 75th anniversary of Neuadd Goffa Caerwedros, and the village is celebrating in style. A brand-new swift tower, Hafod y Wennol —Ceredigion’s first— has been installed, featuring 16 swift nest boxes and 24 nest cups for house martins. This fantastic addition will help secure existing colonies of both species right in the heart of the community.

Huge thanks go to Ceredigion Nature Partnership for funding the project, and to Lester from Peak Boxes for building and installing the tower.

Want to get involved? Keep Saturday 25th April free for a day packed with fun activities celebrating swifts… and rhinos too!
