Funding
Finding and applying for adequate funding is always a challenge. Local Biodiversity Partnerships will generally have a fairly comprehensive database of funding organisations and a wealth of experience in applying for funds. This reference section provides a list of possible funding sources and relevant links to useful web-based resources that advise on areas such as finding match funding and filling out application forms.

Note: This list is not exhaustive and remains a flexible document. While we have tried to categorise the funding opportunities for ease of use we are aware that these may change. Therefore we ask you to do two things. 1) Look at the entire document because while a source may be an opportunity specific it may also suit a local project. 2) If you know of a funding opportunity please contact Delcie Simkin (Delcie.Simkin@wales.gsi.gov.uk; Tel 01938 558108) who will update the document.
Category A: Opportunities for schools
Alan Titchmarsh
We will be launching a new Gardens for Schools Award Scheme early in 2008. All primary schools who are interested in applying for a grant of up to £500 for a school garden project should watch this website for emerging details towards the end of this year.
Schools are asked to submit detailed plans and estimates of the costings, and we like to reward those schools where the emphasis is on growing skills and community involvement and not when too much reliance is placed on the funding of contractors or the provision of paving slabs! Above all, Alan is keen to encourage children's awareness of the environment and things that grow.
Grants: up to £500 awarded biannually

ETeacher Net ( Info site)This comprehensive online directory supports the Growing Schools programme, which aims to reconnect young people with their environment, in both urban and rural settings, through the National Curriculum. Since it began three years ago the programme has gone from strength to strength drawing together expertise, resources and information from many partner organisations, with over 12,000 schools registering their interest. Schools can use the site to find information on health and safety, funding sources, published research, training, resource materials and places to visit (with a helpful key to services offered), news and events. It also provides case studies on outdoor learning and school grounds development.
The site has been designed so teachers can search by subject and key stage and will soon feature a ‘schools network’ offering teachers the opportunity to tap into local community expertise and knowledge.
